About Us

Charlotte Gurusinghe, founder of Sunnyside Montessori, was a teacher in Sri Lanka for many years when the Providence Montessori School in Portland, OR, was looking for A.M.I. (Associated Montessori International)-certified teachers. She came to the United States and taught at Providence for 21 years. In 1989, she and her husband, Durward Gurusinghe, purchased a property in Clackamas and established Sunnyside Montessori. In 2003, Mrs. Gurusinghe acquired the school’s current location, where she continues to nurture and guide children using the Montessori Method and Christian values.

The curriculum at Sunnyside Montessori is based on the development of the child’s inner discipline, allowing for an orderly, calm and peaceful approach to life. Through this program, the child gains confidence and develops logical thinking and a practical awareness of his or her surroundings. Sunnyside Montessori offers a unique educational experience that will not only provide intellectual instruction, but also psychological development that will help your child grow into a mature, confident and independent student of the world.
